When writing for essays in regarding arguments and Pro / Con essays students find it difficult to approach these cases. We have included a few basics of how one should go about with their paper. Before attempting the paper you should know the topic well if you don’t know much about the topic it would be nice to read all the relevant information that you can get on the topic. If you find anything that is not comprehensible in regard to the topic then you should ask your professor for further instructions.
When you are writing essays, which are about arguments, or judging the pros and the cons of any given topic you will always have three factors that you will have to answer to. The three factors are “Purpose, Yourself and the people reading your essay”
The beginning of your essay will describe the purpose of conducting such an argument or stating the pros and cons of your study. In the opening paragraph you will describe who will benefit from your study? What kinds of problems will be answered by this study? What are the current obstacles that will be uncovered? Who will be affected by this study and so forth and so on?
The in the remaining paragraphs you will describe whether you are writing for or against the topic. You should concentrate on what you think and what your opinions are all about. You will have to backup your arguments with references from past works that supports your opinions. You will also have to tell your reader how does this affect you as well. The best way of presenting an argument no matter which side you are on it is best to present how you are or will be effected by the factors surrounding the arguments.
In regard to the person reading your essay you should keep the following in mind: Who is the person that has the power to change the situation? Why would they not want to listen to your idea?)
Some topic ideas:
* I want to argue for better lunches at school
* I want to argue for longer recess.
* I want to argue for less homework.
* I want to argue to sit wherever I want in class.
* I think we should be able to wear hats to school. (http://www.geocities.com/fifth_grade_tpes/persuasive.html)
